Resinotype combines gelatin, powder pigment and resin to produce a velvety varnished finish that other VP processes never reach. The resin, hardened during the final drying, seals the pigment within a translucent layer that brings mineral depth and microreliefs visible in raking light. Unlike carbon transfer which seeks maximum density or bromoil which imitates oil painting, resinotype plays a unique plastic card: the print becomes a vitrified object, halfway between photograph and enamel. It is the only kit in the VP catalog that produces this varnished finish without any external varnish application, which guarantees the physical unity of the image layer and its long-term mechanical stability.

The VP formulation combines gelatin, powder pigments dosed via the 1.25 to 15 mL measuring spoons, and a resin specific to the resinotype process. No dichromate, no volatile solvent: the chemistry remains compatible with kitchen-safe practice, unlike historical resinotypes which required ventilation. The operation demands a stable pouring temperature around 40 °C for the gelatin, controlled with the thermometer included in the starter kit. Where bromoil inks a matrix or carbon transfers a pigmented sheet, resinotype deposits the final layer directly: no transfer, no removal, the print is finished at the moment of unmolding, ready for drying without further manipulation.
