Cyanotype in brief
Invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, cyanotype is the most accessible alternative process. Two iron salts mixed together become photosensitive: exposed to UV (sunlight or Luminograph), they reveal an intense, permanent Prussian blue on cotton paper.
100% non-toxic
All our chemistry is reformulated by Vision Picturale to be safe for home use. No toxic products whatsoever.
Practical guide
Mix VP N°01 and VP N°02 in equal parts, then coat the paper with the foam brush in dim light.
Print your photo as a negative on transparent film with the provided ICC profiles, or use the sample negative.
Place the negative in contact on the sensitised paper and expose 5-15 min in sunlight or with the Luminograph.
Rinse under running water for 5 minutes. The Prussian blue gradually appears and darkens as it dries.
